Which gland requires iodine to function properly?
Thyroid
Thyroid gland requires iodine for its proper functioning. The synthesis of thyroxine is obstructed in the absence of iodine. When the thyroid gland has insufficient amounts of iodine, the gland enlarges and results in a disease called goitre. Hence, iodized salt is used to ensure that people take in adequate amounts of iodine in their diet.
