Question

Which has higher Electron affinity , fluorine or neon

Open in App
Solution

Dear student

Fluorine has a higher electron affinity than Neon
This is due to the fact that Neon being an inert gas do not react and are hence stable. This is because electron has to enter next higher principal quantum leading to an unstable electronic configuration.
F has higher negative electron gain enthalpy because by gaining a single electron, they gain noble electronic configuration.
