Question

Which has more number of atoms, 100 grams of Sodium or 100 grams of Iron (given, atomic mass of Na =23u, Fe =56u)?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1- Finding number of moles of Sodium-

Number of moles =GivenmassMolarmass

=100g23gmol-1

=4.345mol

Step 2- Finding number of atoms of Sodium-

Number of atoms= 4.35xAvogadro'snumber

=4.35x6.022x1023atoms

= 2.61x1024atoms

Step 3- Finding number of moles of Iron-

Number of moles= 100g56gmol-1

=1.78 moles.

Step 4- Finding number of moles of Iron-

Number of atoms= 1.78x6.022x1023

= 1.07x1024 atoms

Thus, 100 grams of Sodium (Na) has more number of atoms.
