Which hormones are produced and released by posterior pituitary gland?
Oxytocin and Antidiuretic hormone (ADH)
The hormones oxytocin and vasopressin (also known as ADH) are secreted from the posterior lobe of the pituitary. It is produced in the neurosecretory cells of the hypothalamus. This posterior pituitary is also responsible for storing these two hormones and releasing them into the blood when required. Oxytocin facilitates childbirth and lactation. ADH helps in the reabsorption of water in the kidneys.
