Question

Which ions will be reduced during electrolysis?

Open in App
Solution

  • Electrolysis is defined as a process of breaking down ionic salts into their cations and anions by passing an electric current tthrough them in an electrolyte- a molten salt of the cation in the previously mentioned salt.
  • There are two electrodes- cathode and anode.
  • Oxidation occurs at another de and reduction occurs at cathode.
  • So the positively charged ions will get reduced by receiving electrons and will move towards the cathode.
