Question

Which is greater? Additive identity or multiplicative identity?

Open in App
Solution

Checking which one is greater:

Additive Identity: Additive identity is a number which when added to any whole number., then the value remains the same.

For any whole number a, a+0=0+a=a

So, 0 is the additive identity for whole numbers.

Multiplicative identity: Multiplicative identity is a number which when multiplied to any whole number., then the value remains the same.

For any whole number a, a×1=1×a=a

So, 1 is the multiplicative identity for whole numbers.

So, clearly 1 is greater than 0,

Hence, multiplicative identity is greater than additive identity.
