Synthetic diamond is the harder than natural diamond. Hardness can b controlled in the synthetic diamonds which depends upon the purity, crystallinity and orientation of the atoms in the lattice. Pure crystals that are oriented along the longest diagonal of the cubic diamond lattice and the nanocrystalline diamonds are many times harder than the natural diamonds.
