The outer d orbital electronic configuration of Cr3+ is as follows:

Whereas Cr2+ has :
t2g:d2xyd1yzd1zx
eg:d0(x2y2)d0(z2).
Now, as half filled orbital are more stable than other.
Hence , t2g half filled orbital found in Cr3+, that is why Cr3+ is more stable.
