Air is inhaled through the nostrils. The nasal cavity helps in filtering the air. The air then enters into the pharynx which is the common passage for food and air. The air then enters into the larynx which is also called the voice box as it vibrates to generate sound. The air finally enters through the trachea which is a long tube. The Trachea at its lower end splits into bronchi. Tertiary bronchi hosts alveoli which is a balloon like structure. The alveoli provides a surface for exchange of gas to take place.
