Open in App
Solution

Alimentary canal

  1. The alimentary canal is a hollow muscular tube organ that runs from the mouth to the anus.
  2. The alimentary canal is responsible for food digestion and absorption.
  3. The mouth, Oesophagus, Stomach, Small intestine, and Large intestine are the major components of the alimentary canal.

Parts of the Alimentary canal

  1. Mouth - The mouth is the first part of the alimentary canal, where food is partially digested using saliva secreted by the salivary gland. Food enters the esophagus from the mouth.
  2. Esophagus - The esophagus is a long, thin muscular tube that runs through the neck, thorax, and diaphragm before opening into the stomach, a muscular bag-like structure.
  3. Stomach - The stomach is a muscular organ with three distinct regions: the cardiac, fundic, and pyloric. The stomach's pyloric region connects to the small intestine's 'C'-shaped duodenum.
  4. Small Intestine - The Small Intestine is divided into three sections: the Duodenum, Jejunum, and Ileum. It is the longest part of the alimentary canal. The ileum connects the small and large intestines.
  5. Large intestine - The large intestine is a long tube that is divided into three sections: the Caecum, Colon, and Rectum. The ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, and sigmoid colon are the four regions of the colon. The descending part of the colon opens into Rectum through the sigmoid colon. The rectum is the portion of the alimentary canal that opens into the anus at its distal end.

The sequence listed below is correct.
