Solution

Constellations

Group of stars in recognizable shapes that can be seen in the night sky are called constellations. If we know the shape of a particular constellation and where it appears in the sky, then we can locate them in the night sky. Examples of some constellations are Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, Great bear, Orion, Cassiopeia, and Leo Major.

  1. One of the most famous constellations which you can see during summertime in the early part of the night is Ursa Major. There are seven prominent stars in this constellation. It appears like a big ladle or a question mark. There are three stars in the handle of the ladle and four in its bowl.
  2. Another eye-catching group of stars that form a distinct letter M or W. This is known as Cassiopeia, Queen of Ethiopia
  3. Little Dipper or Ursa Minor is also made up of seven stars — four in the bowl, and three in the handle as Ursa Major. As four of the stars in the constellation are dim, Little Dipper is hard to see in the light-polluted sky.
  4. Orion the Hunter has a rectangle of bright stars, which includes, at opposite corners, is bisected by a diagonal row of three bright stars (the "belt"). Beneath the belt hangs a row of three stars form Orion's "sword."

Ursa Major is also known as the Great Bear is the easiest recognizable constellation, which has seven prominent stars in the shape of a ladle.
