The largest river of Peninsular India is Godavari and thus the name is given as Vridh Ganga.
Godavari river system
It is India’s second-longest course of brownish water.
It is a seasonal river that normally dries and widens during the monsoons during the summers.
The river originates from Trimbakeshwar, in Maharashtra, near Nasik.
Through the states of Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Orissa, the flow of the river is in the southeast direction through south-central India and drains into the Bay of Bengal.
A fertile delta is developed at Rajahmundry by the river.
There are numerous pilgrimage locations on the banks of this river, including Nasik, Bhadrachalam, and Trimbak.
The largest rail-cum-road bridge in Asia connecting Kovvur and Rajahmundry is located on the Godavari river.
