Question

which is the positive and which is the negative electrode- the cathode or the anode rnwhich is the positively charged and the negatively charged particle- cation or anion

Open in App
Solution

1) Cathode is the negatively charged electrode and anode is the positively charged electrode.

2) The cation is the positively charged ion formed when a neutral atom loses one or more electrons and the anion is the negatively charged ion formed when a neutral atom gains one or more electron.

Thus cation being positively charged is attracted towards the oppositely charged negative electrode that is cathode and anion being negatively charged is attracted towards the oppositely charged positive electrode that is the anode.
