Question

Which is the principal site for the development of ribosomal RNAs?

Open in App
Solution

Ribosomal RNA or rRNA are synthesised in a specialised region of the nucleus called the nucleolus.
The nucleolus appears as a dense area within the nucleus and contains the genes that encode rRNA
The process of synthesis of RNA is called transcription. In which RNA polymerase, the main transcription enzyme uses one of the DNA strands ( the template strand) as a template to make a new complementary RNA.
The encoded rRNA’s differ in size. In nucleolus, the large and small rRNAs combine with ribosomal proteins to form large and small subunits of ribosomes.
