Mesosomes are the folded invagination of the plasma membrane which is mainly present in prokaryotes. E.coli being the prokaryotes, it possesses the mesosomes. It is equivalent to mitochondria of eukaryotes because of respiratory enzymes present in aerobic bacteria and like mitochondria, the folded invagination of mesosomes increases cellular absorption and increases it its efficiency by the production of greater ATP.
