Solution
Positive Electrovalency:
When an element combines with another element by losing electrons to form a compound, its valency is called positive electrovalency.
The elements that have positive electrovalency have the tendency to lose electrons.
Example:
Consider a Sodium atom having atomic number . Thus, the number of electrons in a Sodium atom are .
The electronic configuration of Sodium is .
In order to acquire eight electrons in the outermost shell i.e. to attain nearest noble gas configuration, Sodium atom loses electron from the outermost shell.
This leads to formation of Sodium ion having one unit of positive charge .
