Solution

Lenses:

Transparent substances, especially glass that is used to form an image of an object by refracting light rays from the object are called lenses. Spherical lenses are formed by connecting two spherical surfaces of glass. Lenses are broadly classified into two main types: convex lens and concave lens.

  1. Convex lenses are thicker at their centers than at their edges. Lenses are used in magnifying devices due to their due to magnifying properties. Also, they are used on spectacles to correct the vision and widely in the camera.
  2. Concave lenses are thicker around their edges than at their centers. These lenses are used in spy-holes on doors, on spectacles to correct the vision, and in flashlights.

Hence, A convex lens has the capacity to make an object appear much larger than it actually is, hence is used in the making of a magnifying glass.
