Which metals are used for electroplating metals

Open in App
Solution

Dear student,
There are many metals used in electroplating. The most common is silver and gold used in jewellery. electroplating is done on less reactive metal by highly reactive metal. The commonly used metals in electroplating include zinc, copper, chromium and tin.

Chromium metal is electroplated on bathroom fittings. It has shiny appearance, does not corrode easily and resists scratches. Iron is coated with zinc to protect it from corrosion and formation of rust. The zinc coating will also give it a shiny appearance.
We also use precious metals such as gold, silver and palladium for electroplating. The electroplating can be done on individual metals or alloys.
