The winnowing process can be used to separate the husk from grains.
It is based on the principle that, in a mixture with components of different weights, the lighter particles are blown away by the wind, while the heavier particles fall down and get spearated from the mixture.
When the mixture of husk and grains is allowed to fall from height, the lighter husk particles are carried away by the wind, whereas, the heavier seeds of grain get separated and form a heap near the winnowing platform.
