Surface mining is a form of mining in which the MINERALS CLOSER TOTHE SURFACE ARE REMOVED. The soil and the rock covering the mineral deposits are removed. The following are types of surface mining.

Opencast mining refers to a method of extracting rock or minerals from the earth through their removal from an open pit or borrow.
Alluvial mining - It is the mining of stream bed deposits (also known as alluvial deposits) for minerals. These alluvial deposits are formed when minerals are eroded from their source and then transported by water to a new locale.
Quarrying mining-This technique consists of drilling and blasting to fragment the rock. A large number of charges are fired at one time, producing up to 20,000 tons of broken stone in one blast. The broken stone is crushed into smaller pieces that are separated into uniform classes by screening.
