We start from (-3) and move 1 step towards left, since we are adding (-1) to (-3) .
$\Rightarrow$ (-3) + (-1) = (-4)
Now to add 7 to (-4) ,move 7 steps towards right from (-4).
$\Rightarrow$ (-4) + 7 = 3
$∴$ (-3) + (-1) + 7 = 3
