Which of the factors are responsible for the conversion of solid CO2 in vapours?
Increase in temperature and decrease in pressure
As the temperature increases then the vibrational kinetic energy of the molecules increases and molecules overcome the force of attraction between adjacent molecules and this increases the intermolecular distance between them and hence solid CO2 converts to vapours (Sublimation). The decrease in pressure will lead to an increase in intermolecular spaces between molecules and hence solid CO2 converts to vapours (Sublimation).
