$(1) . 2 x + 3 = 9 \Rightarrow 2 x = 9 - 3 \Rightarrow 2 x = 6 \Rightarrow x = 3 (2) . 3 (x - 5) + 7 = 14 \Rightarrow 3 x - 15 + 7 = 14 \Rightarrow 3 x = 14 + 15 - 7 \Rightarrow 3 x = 29 - 7 \Rightarrow 3 x = 22 \Rightarrow x = \frac{22}{3} (3) . 7 x + 5 + x + 9 = 46 \Rightarrow 8 x + 14 = 46 \Rightarrow 8 x = 46 - 14 \Rightarrow 8 x = 32 \Rightarrow x = \frac{32}{8} = 4 (4) . 7 x + 5 = 40 \Rightarrow 7 x = 40 - 5 \Rightarrow 7 x = 35 \Rightarrow x = \frac{35}{7} \Rightarrow x = 5$
