Solution
The correct option is D
Middle fibrous layers
Anther is the male reproductive part of a flower. It is the anther which produces the male gametophyte or pollen grain by reduction division of sporogenous cells. The sporogenous cells in the anther are protected by multilayered protective tissues which constitute the anther wall. In a transverse section of the anther, the outermost layer or epidermis can be seen followed by the endothecium which is hygroscopic in nature and plays a vital role during anther dehiscence to release the pollen grains. The next multilayered tissue is the middle fibrous layer which is ephemeral or short-lived in nature. The fourth layer is the tapetum which nourishes the sporogenous cells in the pollen sac of the anther.
