The correct option is A 1 and 4
IUDs stands for intrauterine devices. IUDs are small contraceptive devices made of plastic or metal that are put inside the uterus to obstruct fertilisation and pregnancy. On the basis of composition and mode of action, there are different types of IUDs.
Rings, lippes loops etc. are the first generation IUDs that are non-medicated in nature. First generation IUDs are the physical method IUDs that acts as a barrier between sperm and egg. These devices are placed in the contours of the uterine cavity which will not allow sperms to reach the egg at the site of fertilisation.
The second-generation IUDs are copper releasing devices like CuT, Cu7, Multiload 375 etc. They increase the levels of prostaglandins and white blood cells within the uterus, thus causing phagocytosis of sperms.
The third generation is hormone-releasing IUDs like Progestasert, LNG - 20 etc. The hormone-releasing IUDs make the uterus unsuitable for the survival of sperms as well as for implantation of embryo.
