Question

Which of the following are isotopes and which are isobars?

Argon, Deuterium, Calcium, Tritium, Protium

Open in App
Solution

Argon and Calcium are isobars because they have the same mass number which is 40 and both have different atomic number Argon = 18 and Calcium = 20.

Protium and Deuterium are isotopes because they have a same atomic number which is 1 but have a different mass number. Isotopes have same chemical properties because all the isotopes have the same electrons in their outermost shell and their electronic configuration are same.
