Refraction is a phenomenon in which light bends as it travels from one optical medium to another. Some of the phenomena involving refraction in daily life are:

• The Sun appears before the actual sunrise, and disappears after the actual sunset.
• On a hot day, or in a desert, the inverted false image of an object is formed in the air called mirage.
• An object appears to be broken or bent, when dipped in a liquid.
