Which of the following are the types of microphones used in day to day life?
Carbon microphones
Capacitor microphones
There are mainly 2 types of microphones which are in use. They are:
1. Carbon microphones: When sound waves strike the carbon microphone, its diaphragm vibrates, exerting a varying pressure onto the carbon. These varying pressure levels are then translated into varying levels of resistance, in turn varying the current passing through the microphone.
2. Capacitor microphones: A capacitor has two plates with an applied voltage between them. In the capacitor mic, one of these plates acts as the diaphragm. The diaphragm vibrates when bombarded with sound waves, changing the distance between the two plates and therefore changing the capacitance. More precisely, when the plates are closer together, capacitance increases and a charge current occurs.
