Solution

The correct options are
A Calcium, strontium, and barium
B Chlorine, bromine, and iodine

1) Atomic masses of Ca = 40, Ba = 137,
Sr = 88
We know that:
Atomic wt. of 2nd element= Atomic wt. of 1st+Atomic wt. of 3rd2
Here, Atomic wt. of Ca + Atomic wt. of Ba2
= 137+402 =88.5 ~ 88 = the atomic mass of Sr
Hence, it is Dobereiner's triad.

2) Atomic masses of Cl =35, I =127, Atomic mass of Br =80
Atomic wt. of Cl + Atomic wt. of I2
= 35+1272 = 81= the atomic mass of Br
Hence, it is a Dobereiner's triad.

3) Atomic masses of H =1 , Li =6, Na =22
Atomic wt. of H + Atomic wt of Li2Atomic wt. of Na
Hence, it is not a Dobereiner's triad.

4) Atomic masses of P =30, V =50, Nb =92
Atomic wt. of P+ Atomic wt. of Nb2Atomic wt. of V
Hence, it is not a Dobereiner's triad.
