Lysosomes are small vesicles containing hydrolytic enzymes and surrounded by a single membrane of up to 100nm thickness. They are formed by Golgi apparatus and contain some 60 different types of acid hydrolase for digestion of various materials, e.g., nucleases, proteases, lipases, phosphatases, etc. Lysosomes are most abundant in phagocytic cells (WBC), chondroclasts and osteoclasts. The osteoclast is the multinucleated bone cells that involved in the remodeling of bones of the vertebral column. As it involves in the absorption and dissolution of bone it requires a large number of lysosomes.
