Solution

The correct option is A SO2,HNO2
We know that, the highest and lowest possible oxidation states of N is +5 and -3 respectively. And the highest and lowest possible oxidation states of S is +6 and -2 respectively. And the highest and lowest possible oxidation states of Cl is +7 and -1 respectively.
  • In SO₂ , the oxidation state of sulphur is +4. Hence, it can undergo both oxidation and reduction.

  • In HNO₃ , the oxidation state of nitrogen is +5 which is the highest possible oxidation state of N. Hence, it can undergo only reduction.

  • In HNO₂ , the oxidation state of nitrogen is +3. Hence, it can undergo both oxidation and reduction.

Thus, option A is correct.
