Which of the following can be used to remove temporary hardness of water?
Slaked Lime
In general, water that contains bicarbonates, sulphates and chlorides of Calcium and/or Magnesium is called hard water. If only the bicarbonates are present, then this type of hardness is called 'temporary hardness'. This can be removed either by boiling or by treating the water with measured quantity of Slaked lime. In either case, insoluble metal carbonates are formed, which are then separated out through filtration.
