Carbon dioxide (CO2) is carried in human body in 3 different ways:- (i) CO2 is highly soluble in the blood. So it remains dissolved in the plasma. (ii) CO2 remains attached to the haemoglobin and forms a reversible compound called carbamino-haemoglobin. (iii) CO2enters into erythrocytes, gets converted into carbonic acid by carbonic anhydrase and finally into bicarbonate ions.
