Disaccharides are sugars or carbohydrates made by linking two monosaccharide units. When two glucose units comes together to form a disaccharide, there is removal of water molecule, resulting in the formation of a glycosidic bond. There is loss of water molecule in this reaction and so, the reaction is known as dehydration synthesis.
