The correct option is B Lactational amenorrhea, Pills, Emergency contraceptives
Lactational amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) method is based on the fact that ovulation does not occur during the period of intense lactation following childbirth.
Prolactin is responsible for breast development and lactation in pregnant women. It is secreted from the anterior pituitary and high levels of prolactin during intense lactation has an inhibitory effect on the release of GnRH from the hypothalamus. Due to this, FSH and LH are not released from the anterior pituitary.
FSH and LH play a vital role in the development of ovarian follicles and ovulation. Hence, lactating females experience amenorrhea (lack of menstruation) for few months. It serves as a natural contraceptive method for birth control.
Birth control pills usually contain man-made forms of 2 hormones called estrogen and progestin (synthetic progesterone). Both estrogen and progestin in the pill prevent a woman’s ovary from releasing the egg during her menstrual cycle. Hence the pills work by preventing ovulation.
Emergency contraceptives are used during unprotected intercourse and also, during cases of sexual assault, rape. The emergency contraceptives contain levonorgestrel (hormonal medication) and prevent pregnancy by preventing ovulation if taken before ovulation; and also, cause thickening of the cervical mucus to make it difficult for the sperm to travel to the ovum.
The above-mentioned contraceptive methods involve the role of hormones.
Hence option b is correct.
Condoms, diaphragms, vaults, etc. act as barriers and prevent the meeting of sperm and ovum, thus preventing fertilisation.
CuT is a copper releasing IUD and it releases copper ions within the female reproductive tract. The copper ions suppress the motility of sperms. As the motility of sperms is suppressed; the sperms are unable to reach the fallopian tube where fertilisation is supposed to take place.
