Infertility in males can be caused due to a variety of reasons. The reasons may indicate various levels at which if the normal process is hampered, might lead to infertility. Mentioned below are some of the reasons of male infertility-
I. Oligospermia- low sperm count, or the presence of fewer sperms in the semen than should be present normally.
II. Low levels of gonadotropins that hinder the production of male sex hormones (androgens) and the process of sperm production (spermatogenesis).
III. Erectile dysfunction- inability of the male to maintain an erection of the penis to penetrate it deep into the vagina.
IV. Cryptorchidism- inability of the testes to descend into the scrotum. For the process of spermatogenesis to occur, the testes require a lower temperature than the body temperature. This can be achieved outside the abdominal cavity in the scrotum which provides 2-2.5 degrees lower temperature than the body.
Apart from the ones mentioned above, there could be various other reasons for male sterility as well. If the above mentioned reasons could be overcome by the use of supplements, the condition of infertility can be dealt with to some extent depending on the type and severity of the condition.
However, the intake of alcohol causes oligospermia. A raise in the temperature around the testes, makes it difficult for the process of spermatogenesis to occur.
