As per The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) coastal state enjoys limited power in the contiguous zone. This extends to defence, environmental pollution, smuggling. Exclusive Economic Zone extends for 200 Nautical miles as defined by UNCLOS. As per UNCLOS, the exploitation rights of these resources presented within the EEZ of a country is the sole right of the coastal state.
