The makers of the Indian Constitution tried the spirit of this motto in the Indian people by making it a part of the Indian Constitution.
The Preamble to Indian Constitution declares India as a secular state. The Preamble reads as follows:
"WE, THE PEOPLE OF INDIA, having solemnly resolved to constitute India into a SOVEREIGN SOCIALIST SECULAR DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC and to secure to all its citizen
JUSTICE, social, economic and political;
LIBERTY of thought, expression, belief, faith and worship;
