Antibiotics work against bacterial diseases. Cholera is an infection of the small intestine caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Anthrax is caused by the bacterium Bacillus anthracis, which may affect the skin, lungs or intestines. Malaria is an infection which is caused by the protozoan Plasmodium, while goitre is an iodine-deficiency disease. Hence, one cannot use antibiotics for malaria and goitre.
