Sickle cell anaemia


In sickle cell anaemia, the red blood cells become rigid and sickle-shaped like crescent moon. These irregularly shaped cells can get stuck in small blood vessels and block them resulting in reduced blood flow. The hemoglobin in the RBC becomes deformed which decreases the oxygen-carrying capacity of the red blood cells.
