Which of the following gases that we breathe in, is absorbed the most by the body?
Oxygen
The air that we breathe in comprises of three main gases. The largest proportion (79%) is of the inert gas nitrogen, with oxygen making up 21 percent and carbon dioxide just 0.03 percent. Nitrogen being inert does not react with anything, therefore we exhale the same amount of nitrogen that we inhale. Oxygen, on the other hand, is absorbed by the lungs and taken into the body for respiration.
