Acetaldehyde gives positive haloform test and positive Fehling's solution test. The compound containing CH3C group give a positive result with the iodoform test in the presence of NaOH, it produced a pale yellow precipitate of iodoform.
In Fehling's test, the presence of aldehyde but not ketone is detected by reduction of the deep blue solution of copper (II) to a red precipitate of insoluble copper oxide.
Only acetaldehyde will give both the test as it contain s carbon atom as well as an aldehyde group.
