Solution
The correct option is A Proximal centriole The sperm is divided into 4 regions- the head, neck, middle piece and tail. The neck contains 2 centrioles- proximal centriole and distal centriole. The proximal centriole plays no active role in the sperm but is responsible for the first cleavage of the zygote. The distal centriole gives rise to the axial filament of the sperm. At the end of the middle piece, an annulus is present which is known as the ring centriole or the Jensen’s ring. Its function is still unknown. There is no lateral centriole found in sperms.
