Electric field, E due to a ring of radius R along its axis at distance r from its centre is given by,

|E|=KQr(R2+r2)32

At the centre of the ring, r=0 so, |E|=0

At r we have,

|E|=limrKQrr3(R2r2+1)32=0

Now, we know that,
E achieves its maxima at r=±R2

On plotting the above points we get the graph as shown below.


Hence, option (a) is correct answer.
