Let inital velocity of the ball in vertical and horizontal direction be $u_{y}$ and $u_{x}$ m/s respectively .

Velocity in horizontal direction will remain constant.

Velocity in vertical direction will vary as $v_{y}$ = $u_{y}$ - gt

Therefore , |v| = $\sqrt{{u_{x}}^{2} + {(u_{y} - g t)}^{2}}$
