Question

Which of the following is a characteristic feature of viruses?

Open in App
Solution

Viruses are made of nucleic acids (genetic material) and proteins. The genetic material is capable of undergoing changes called mutations. Viruses lack a cellular structure. So, they lack their own protein synthesising machinery. Hence, they are not capable of independent existence and always require a host. Due to absence of chromosomes, they do not undergo meiosis too.
