HMP pathway

The major purpose of this pathway is generation of reduced NADPH and pentose phosphates for nucleotide synthesis. The HMP pathway has oxidative and non oxidative phases. During the non oxidative phase, the pentose phosphate is converted to intermediates of glycolysis.
