Nutrient cycling is defined as the movement of nutrient elements through the various components of an ecosystem. Chemical elements move from environment to organisms and back to the environment in more or less closed loops. Nutrient cycles are divided into two types based on element reservoir:
(a) gaseous
(b) sedimentary
The reservoir for the gaseous type of nutrient cycle (nitrogen, carbon, oxygen, hydrogen cycle) exists in the atmosphere.
