ZZ - male and ZW female.In birds, the female is heterogametic with one Z chromosome and one W chromosome whereas the male has pair of Z chromosome as their sex chromosome. In this case, the total number of chromosomes is same in both male and female, but the female produces two different type of gametes in terms of sex chromosome. Hence, sex determination in birds depends on female heterogamety. In humans, the female has a pair of X chromosome and the male is heterogametic with one X and one Y chromosome.
