A wide variety of organisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoans, etc can be pathogenic.

Amoebiasis is an infectious intestinal disease caused by the protozoan Entamoeba histolytica. The symptoms include abdominal cramps, stool with discharge of excess mucus and blood, mild diarrhoea alternating with constipation, etc. This disease is transmitted through contaminated food and water.

Variola virus is the causative agent for smallpox characterised by fever, head and body ache, appearance of early rashes which gradually developed into fluid filled pustules. The infected person spreads the virus via direct contact .
Filariasis or elephantiasis is caused by the helminth worm Wuchereria bancrofti, transmitted by the bite of the female Culex mosquito which carries the pathogen. The disease is chronic with slow inflammation and swelling of the lymph vessels of the legs, genital organs, etc. .

Common cold is an infectious disease caused by the Rhinovirus, transmitted through droplets released during coughing and sneezing. The virus affects the nose and the upper respiratory tract but not the lungs withsymptoms like nasal congestion and discharge, sore throat, cough, headache, etc.

Chicken pox is caused by the Varicella Zoster virus with major symptoms like appearance of an itchy rash which soon turns into fluid filled pustules. This is accompanied by fever, headache, loss of appetite, etc. The virus spreads through direct contact with the infected person.
